Command tanks and more in this battle simulation game

Total Tank Simulator is a video game that lets you play as an army commander. Developed by a Poland-based developer, Noobz, this battle simulator puts you in charge of a massive army of tanks and other battlefield units. It also lets you play through the events of World War II. However, instead of classic, realistic, and gritty graphics and storyline, Total Tank Simulator offers a polygonal miniaturistic art style that displays the grand scale of the fights you’ll join.

WW2 in cartoon style

There are dozens upon dozens of video games that have constantly used World War II as the centerpiece of their setting or even as just the backdrop. It’s no wonder at all since this period in human history is the one that truly displayed the technological advancements of the world when it comes to warfare. Tragedies aside, strategy games dealing in wars take a lot of inspiration from WW2, so you’re bound to come across lots of video games with this premise.

Total Tank Simulator is in the vein as the others. However, unlike first-person shooters or grand strategy games, you will be playing with the likes of a marriage between World of Tanks Blitz and Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. Instead of realistic graphics to depict the real-life event, this game presents itself as a silly-looking physics-based simulator. However, you shouldn’t just shrug it off as a parody game. Total Tank Simulator offers AI-driven battles that you can command and even personally control if you happen to want specific movements done.

The power of physics

Similar to most battle simulation games, you can choose factions to play as. Here, countries are World War II factions—each of them with unique unit strengths, benefits, and terrain advantages depending on the locations the battles will take place. When finally choosing what you’d like to deploy, you have a large selection of over 200 units at your disposal. From infantry to aircraft, you can find all the historically-accurate units deployed during WW2 in this game.

Once the battle starts, these units will follow the commands you choose. Take note, however, that they will also logically react to what’s happening to their surroundings and their status. Some will retreat if they have to, and even your orders may not sway them. If you want to get up close and personal, you can manually control any unit to dynamically influence the battle. There are more than 50 unique maps available, all varying in terrain layout and climate, so no battle will play out the same.

Similar to the design model and physics of the deployable units, the map also contains destructible elements. Houses will get demolished if tanks go through them, and trees will go aflame if they’re caught in the crossfire. There’s a campaign mode available, offering four mission types: Deathmatch, Kill VIP, Protect VIP, and Wave Defense. If you want to play around without restrictions, however, you can also try Sandbox Mode. Then there’s Shadow Mode, which is pretty much just a “beat your best score” mode.

Command and relax

Overall, Total Tank Simulator offers an interactive battle simulation experience with the look and flavor of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. It’s much more responsive to your commands, however, so if you like war games, this is a nice title to try out when you want to get away from realistic shooters.
